As a single woman living in Chicago, Trader Joe’s has been an absolute game changer when it comes to easy, tasty and affordable meal prepping. Their frozen food options not only taste good but also have minimal ingredients that provide the perfect base to upgrade into a meal.
This week I have discovered the magic that is Trader Joe’s Garlic Shiitake Green Beans. They are simply: green beans in a soy, shiitake and garlic sauce that can be sauteed or microwaved. I paid $2.99 and was able to get two servings out of it!
How To Upgrade Your Green Beans
- Add a protein: I used shrimp that I had on hand from the freezer.
- Other protein ideas: ground turkey or beef (and shredded carrots!)
- Make some rice on the stove or in the rice cooker.
Since the Trader Joe’s Green Beans already come in their own sauce, there’s no need to season beyond salt and pepper. They pack a garlicky punch on their own. All you need to do is cook your protein, remove from pan, cook the green beans and add the protein back in. Make rice on the side either in a rice cooker or on the stovetop. And that’s it! Takes less than 30 minutes and whips up easily after a long day of work.
